Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students learn to listen closely, hear and analyze film sound from practical and theoretical perspectives.

Students are able to eventually apply this clear understanding of film sound to their own projects.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

The student is expected to attend all screenings and write essays on the films screened.

Course contents

This course consists of monthly meetings over the semester. Each meeting will be the projection of a film with soundtracks of special importance. Films are alternated each semester depending on students.

Students will learn how to listen to films and develop new vocabularies to describe the experience in sonic terms. The class gives an open forum to collaboratively discuss the films screened.
