Learning outcomes of the course unit
Knowledge and understanding:
After finishing the course, the student:
- will be able to define concepts and key terms in the areas of arts management, advertising, public relations, legal issues, leadership skills, budgeting, marketing and fundraising.
- will be able to demonstrate knowledge of structure and strategies of arts marketing
- will be able to describe and effectively apply principles and tools of PR and crisis communication
- will be able to identify the most common music industry agreements and contracts, and will be familiar with the structure and most important features of the artist management contract, tour agreement and recording production contract
Skills and abilities:
After finishing the course, the student:
- will show improved English proficiency in all competencies (reading, speaking, reading, listening)
- will be able to speak and write competently for a variety of purposes, such as public speaking, writing effective fundraising letters, e-mails and describing and dealing with problems
- will be able to distinguish various decision making styles and employ various decision making strategies
- will demonstrate ability to use selected soft skills, such as negotiating and discussing in group

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of English at the prior course level or 702HAP3 English for the Music Industry 3.
Course contents
This course is designed as a compulsory module for graduate students of Music Management Programme at Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. The course will familiarise students with a variety of technical and stylistic English language considerations, with a focus on selected aspects of the 21st century music industry.

Assessment methods and criteria
Evaluation and Assessment
You can score maximum of 100% for this course. Pass mark for awarding credit is 60%.
Active participation in class discussions 40%
Attendance is mandatory and participation in class discussion is a crucial course component. Students are expected to read assigned materials prior to class meetings, ask questions, contribute to the discussion and participate. This portion of your grade also includes in-class projects/assignments, small take-home assignments, etc. More than three absences for any reason will result in failing the course.
Final test 60%
A comprehensive written exam covering all eight topics, will include terms and definitions, short answer questions as well as selected grammar and vocabulary areas.
