Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course will introduce the students to the theoretical and practical aspects of the traditional Chinese excercise taijiquan of the Yang family, which is deeply rooted in the three ancient Chinese philosophies, taoism, confucianism and buddhism. Students will learn old taijiquan skills aimed at improving physical and mental prowess and restoring the harmony of the body, mind and spirit.

Taiji lessons are conducted in Czech and English.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

No prior knowledge required to enrol for this course. To complete the course in Poněšice, good health is required.

Equipment: indoor/outdoor sportswear and footwear (compulsory).

Course contents

  1. Exercises aimed at easing of the stress on the body and mind.
  2. Meditation exercises cultivating concentration and general calming aimed at maintaining optimal health (in the sense of relieving stress and maintaining homeostasis).
  3. The ability to use taiji as a form of self-defense is a test of understanding this art.

Assessment methods and criteria

Active participation in the course is necessary for a successful completion of the course. Credits are awarded based on activity in the exercises.
