General information about admission process
The master's degree study in photography in English is intended for applicants who already have a bachelor's degree or will graduate with a bachelor's degree in the current academic year. Applicants who have not studied photography under a bachelor's degree programme may also apply. Deep interest and experience in photography and visual arts are expected.
Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning
The programme does not have any specific requirements for the recognition of prior learning.
The procedure for recognition at AMU is governed by Articles 89 and 90 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions No. 111/1998 Coll., as amended, and by the AMU Attendance and Examination Regulations (Articles 8, 14, 18).
Qualification requirements and regulations
Required qualifications for admission to the Master?s programme: A completed university education in a Bachelor?s programme in Photography or in a related field.
Regulations: The Czech education system is governed by the Act on Higher Education Institutions, as amended (Act No. 111/1998 Coll.), and by the internal regulations of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
Field of study characterization
The programme is designed to deepen and interconnect knowledge and practice in the field of photography, new media and technical image. In the first year, students study in specialized studios and their knowledge is made profound in four thematic cycles. In the second year of their study, students prepare for the final state exam. The objective of the study is to prepare future artists for their own artistic activities and work on specialized projects in the field of art and artistic research.
Key learning outcomes
The graduate of the programme in Photography is a complex creative personality. Through his/her abilities and knowledge, the graduate is thoroughly familiar with traditional and contemporary methods of production, and is able to contribute creatively to their further development in the areas of art and scholarship. The graduate is prepared for independent, distinctive creative work which also encompasses reflection on production in the area of photography, as well as in the context of the artistic and audio-visual spheres. He/she is able to reflect on the production of audio-visual and artistic works, and to regard them in their theoretical, historic, sociological and philosophical context.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
Thanks to the systematic care and attention accorded to his/her talent, the graduate is an artistic personality or expert with a firm scholarly grounding and with the prerequisites for further creative growth. In addition to various possibilities in the area of photography, he/she is also equipped for the areas of publication, curation, work on audio-visual productions, and pedagogical activity.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Studies are assessed by credits and examinations stipulated by study plans. The student is informed of these through the information system.
The student registers for examinations using the information system, and is entitled to a second and third attempt to pass an examination. If neither of these attempts proves successful, the Dean may in exceptional cases permit a fourth attempt (administered by a commission). It is not permitted to repeat an examination for the main subjects or to repeat written examinations.
The credit is an ungraded form of assessment of studies. It is allocated upon fulfilment of requirements stipulated for individual subjects and is recorded in the information system with the word ?Credited? (Z). An examination is a graded form of assessment of studies, which tests knowledge and level of creativity in the relevant subject. In the main subjects, examinations are administered by a commission. An examination may be practical, written, oral, or involve a combination of these methods. Examinations are graded on the scale ?A, B, C, D, E, F?.
