The course contains and provides knowledge of the basic steps of folk dances of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. The basic folk dances from the core areas are introduced. Detailed analysis of basic dance steps - the method and sequence of teaching the steps, their variations and possible combinations. Method of working with folk dance material and creating exercises, approach to teaching folk dances.

The aim of the study is an introduction to methodical thinking, the ability to analyze elements and possible errors in performance. Mastering the procedure of teaching dance steps and dances, learning the procedure of teaching and conducting an independent Folk Dance lesson.

The course and prepares technically and theoretically to master folk dance and orientation in ethnographic areas. The course is a six-semester course. In the three years of study, the student will gradually acquire and deepen his/her knowledge of all the basic elements, variations and dances of different regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia:

Thematic areas:

The basic steps of Bohemian folk dance in place, in advancing from place, in turning and in performing in pairs. Simple partner work in folk dance for pair dancing. Dances with a tight connection to the music and dances with a loose connection to the music. Children's dance games and dances for children.

The basic steps - squats, big squats, doublesuspension , „kolíbka“, small sunas, small swings, transferring weight from foot to foot, „Trojhran“, double polka (heel-toe), cross step (step and jump)

Students are introduced to the basic dance steps as well as their possible variations, the way and rules of combining steps into links. Students create simple lesson tips for the beginner level.

Teaching work with rhythm and coordination in folk dance.

Simple folk dances of Bohemia.

Double dances (Shátečkový, Rejdovák and Rejdovačka, Zahradník), ordinary dances easier and less easy.

For selected dances, practical observation of identical signs - song lyrics, dance steps, dance structure, such as Švec, Kalamajka, Dupák, Řezanka dances.

Repetition of dances of individual areas, which the students they learnned in the lessons. The most typical dances from individual regions with verification of compliance with character specifics: Silesia, Wallachia, Laško, Haná, Moravian Slovácko.

On the basis of the acquired knowledge, students create dance variations for the initial teaching of folk dances, as well as their regional variations, which they assign, evaluate and analyze.

Finding and preparing suitable music material and working with an accompanist is an integral part of the learning process, especially when working with material from a particular folklore area, a careful approach is required.

Observing at dance conservatories and ZUŠs result in written reflections, during which students communicate their findings to each other, expanding their professional insight necessary for their future teaching practice.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Oral and practical examination of practical and theoretical knowledge, defence of written work in preparation for the examination lesson (1-2 standard pages), professional description of technical exercises, theoretical and movement preparation for teaching the selected dance, written lessons prepared for a certain stage of teaching, its partial demonstration and didactic commentary of individual elements and links.

Other requirements: 75% attendance, activity in teaching, creation of a portfolio based on hospitalizations, workshops and festivals attended
