Learning objective:

The content of the course Modern and Contemporary Dance Practice Dance 1 leads to the acquisition of practical skills related to creative and improvisational techniques in finding movement material for teaching phrases, dance performances with regard to the movement - dance level of students. At the same time it develops the creative potential of students necessary for their own teaching practice. The Modern and Contemporary Dance Practice course can also be taught in block form, in the form of intensive workshops in a given semester.

The aim is to teach the student to seek and discover inspiration in the external and internal world, to work inventively with individual components of movement such as body, space, time, dynamics or themes (e.g. movement principle etc.) and to shape them in dance compositions. The student can create movement motifs and develop them into shorter choreographic units.

A recommended component of the Modern and Contemporary Dance Practice course is active participation of students in a workshop of a repertory company, contact improvisation, partner dance organized by the Dance Department or other institutions.

The student will gain practical experience in creating shorter movement units and working creatively with the elements of movement - body, time, space, dynamics. The student will understand the laws of dance composition. The student has a basic overview of various choreographic approaches in modern and contemporary dance based on the examples of choreographies of the world's leading companies.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Credit is awarded on the basis of oral (methodological-didactic interpretation) and practical verification of understanding of the content of the subject, which may take the form of a demonstration of own practical exercise or presentation of a dance-movement phrase (created as a result of own creative work).

Additional requirements: 80% attendance, activity in class, portfolio development (includes workshop reflections, dance performance reviews, and retakes from observing classes at public or private dance institutions). Reading of required and recommended readings.
