This is an introductory course tailored to international students of various linguistic and cultural backgrounds studying at CINKK Program, FAMU. No previous knowledge of Czech is required. The course begins with the basics of Czech grammar and vocabulary. Besides that, students learn technical terms and vocabulary of their field, cinematography. Weekly classes consist of grammar and vocabulary discussions, exercises promoting conversation and a review of the previous lesson?s topics. In addition, each week homework assignments are handed out for completion by the next lesson.

Grammar: Phonetic and graphic Rules, Verb Conjugations in the Past, Present and Future Tenses, Indicative and Imperative Mood. Verbs of position and motion, corresponding Adverbs and Prepositions. Nouns and Adjectives, Personal, Demonstrative and Possessive Pronouns: Gender and Case (Nominative, Genitive, Dative, Accusative, Locative, Instrumental Singular Cases), Word Order, the system of Czech Prepositions.

Learning outcomes

During the four-semester Czech course students should be able to reach A2 level in the active way and B1 level in the passive way according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
