This module brings the participants a laboratory experience of the writer's room and encourages collaboration among the students from different departments. It will consist of two parts:

The first part (DECEMBER): students will be introduced to basic concepts and terms. Then, we will discover what it means to work together in a writer's room. For this part, your own ideas for the show will be needed. Everybody will have a maximum of 5 minutes to describe it in a short pitch. After that, we will make groups to work on these ideas more.

In the second part of this module (JANUARY), we will dive more into structuring the series by analyzing chosen show and creating our own second or third season of this show.

The module is organized by Natália Pavlove and the Production Department as a part of her research project “From co-development to co-distribution”.about international co-development in the film industry.

The guest lecturer is Barbora Námerová, a graduate of FAMU scriptwriting department. Barbora is an acclaimed script writer. The films on which she collaborated with the director Tereza Nvotová premiered at festivals such as Locarno FF and Rotterdam FF and won over 20 prizes. She is an alumnus of Serial Eyes- Europe's premier postgraduate training programme for television writers and producers organized by Germany's leading film school DFFB in Berlin.

Prerequisites and other requirements

For the first part (DECEMBER): come to the workshop with at least one idea for the show/series (it can be an anthology series, mini-series, series, procedurals, or a combination of any of these). It does not have to be developed, but you should know at least your logline.

For the second part (JANUARY): - watch the selected series as homework. Please, if you can, make the notes too. It is essential - please don't come to the class without it.

Literature

The reading list is there to help you orient yourself in the theory of series writing, but if you don't have time for it, rather really spend some time thinking about your show and thoroughly watch the show selected for the second part of the workshop.

Zápočet je udělen na základě 100% docházky.

Note

Everybody is welcome on this journey. Does not mean that you must be a scriptwriter to come. You can be from any kind of field in the film industry. The only requirement is to love TV series and be able to work in a group and be willing to listen to other voices. We will together create a safe space that welcomes every voice and mind in the room, but we will also discover what it means to be a head writer in the room.
