The workshop focuses on making positive prints using selected historical techniques (ferrotype, ambrotype, carbon print, etc.) The workshop focuses on a selected historical photographic technique each year, so this course can be enrolled repeatedly.

Main topics

The main topic is a specific photographic technique, e.g. ferrotype, ambrotype, carbon printing, etc.

The schedule of the workshop can be formulated in general terms (sub-differences are always determined by the given photographic technique) as follows:

1/ Historical and technical context of the origin and possibilities of the given technology, its specifics and modifications

2-5/ Preparation and testing of photographic materials

6-7/ Preparation for photography

8-11/Preparation of the photographic chamber and studio, actual photography and processing of the material

12-13/ Final processing, evaluation of results

Learning outcomes

The listener masters the process of non-stationary photographic techniques, safely controlling and achieving the desired results. Can write a process report reflecting on process anomalies with suggested solutions. Suggests the use of appropriate technique in their work. Seeks parallels in contemporary art and opportunities to further develop the use of the relevant technique. Is aware of alternative uses.

Prerequisites and other requirements

Literature
