The course contains a detailed analysis of dance steps of the main folklore areas - the method and sequence of teaching the steps, their variations and combinations. The sequence of teaching dance steps, step variations for each stage of folk dance teaching at vocational schools. The method of working with folk dance material and creating exercises for different folklore areas, the approach to teaching folk dances so as to create a creative atmosphere.
The aim of the study is the development of methodical thinking, the ability to analyze the elements of folklore areas, understanding their possible combinations, mastering the procedure of teaching dance steps and dances, mastering the procedure of teaching and independent conducting of Folk Dance lessons. The study deepens the professional understanding of the context in folk dance, its ethnographic inclusion, including within family and annual ceremonies.
On the basis of the acquired knowledge, the student creates dance variations for initial folk dance lessons, as well as regional variations, which are peer-commissioned, evaluated and analyzed. The student prepares more complex variations and exercises for older students (second grade), prepares technical exercises for a region of Moravia, searches for dances of individual regions, for which he/she then creates movement preparation.
The course is closely linked to the Folk Dance Pedagogical Seminar and prepares technically and theoretically for mastering folk dance and orientation in ethnographic areas. In the three years of study, the student gradually acquires and deepens his knowledge of all the basic elements, variations and dances of different regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia.
On the basis of hospitalizations at dance conservatories, ZUŠ and visits to folklore festivals, debates are created, during which students communicate their knowledge to each other, which broadens their professional insight necessary for their future teaching practice and is the basis for the creation of a revival portfolio. Finding and preparing suitable sheet music and working with an accompanist is an integral part of the teaching process, especially when working with material from a particular folklore area, a careful approach is required.
The student prepares a seminar paper on the assigned topic, which is a preparation for the exam lesson (3-5 standrad pages range).
Thematic areas:
In the methodology, the frequency of work at the pole is reduced, and the students learn to use this work in a targeted way for the technical mastery of more complex dance steps. These include more complex combinations of sunas, heel stomps, half-foot stomps and full-foot stomps. Individual movement motifs of the „Slovak Verbuňk“.
More complicated motifs of folk dances in space. Czech national polka (from the time of the national revival) in different pair holding and styles.
Steps and motifs of the „Furiant“ dance (Hradecký, Polabský, Horácký), Hanácká walk, polka and running, steps of the Starodávný dance from Wallachia and Lachia, Lašská mazurka, special steps of the Špicpolka dance, odzemek steps.
Methodical and technical preparation of the high Czech lifter.
Dance repertoire: Jumping and shaking Polka, Jihočeská kolečka, Sousedská with lifter, Špicpolka from Lipenské Záhoří, dances with variable beat (Latovák, Pětičtvrteční, Pádavec).
Esmeralda (polka of the national revival), Beseda (Czech ballroom dance).
Starodávný, Trojke, Cófavá, Odzemek, Ondraš, Karičky (other dance motifs, more complicated rhythmic and spatial decorations).
Students learn to work with authentic material of folk dances from the collections (reading notation, movement reconstruction of the dance) and become more familiar with the issue of improvisation in folk dance.
The students have the task of searching for more complex dances and their variants in the collections. These dances are then combined into larger units (the students get to know the formation of bands).
The audience will check how it is possible to work on the students' endurance and physical fitness in folk dance. Dance combinations are made longer (for endurance) and more difficult (for technical growth). Step variations are formed from, for example, the following steps - mazurpolka with a foreshadowing and dove, polka steps decorated with a foreshedowihg and dove, Skočná in various combinations with other steps and all execution options. All other steps discussed and their variants are used.

Students are introduced to the basic dance steps as well as their possible variations, the way and rules of combining steps into links. Gradually, students will learn the differences in the performance of individual dance steps of different folklore regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Students create different tips of lessons with different focus, both for children's folk groups, art schools and dance groups.
Learning outcomes
After completing the cours, student:
- knows how to combine dance steps and their variants into larger units
- understands well the diversity of ethnographic regions, prepares technical exercises for a region of Bohemia
- can independently modify the dances, extend the variants with more complicated movement register
- chooses the correct teaching procedure and sequence of assignments
- can explain footwork and its differences for each area
- has an overview of teaching methods to guide pupils to the movement differentiation of ethnographic areas
- is able to structure a dance lesson correctly, mastering the structured assignment of links and dances
- can analyse his/her own work as well as that of other students, which he/she is able to evaluate professionally, point out shortcomings, see mistakes and highlight the pros
- on the basis of the acquired comprehensive knowledge is able to build a lesson for different age groups, is able to attract different age groups and performance categories
- is able to write his/her own text evaluating the work of a selected folk ensemble

Oral and practical examination of practical and theoretical knowledge, defence of written work in preparation for the examination lesson (range 3 - 5 standard pages), professional description of technical exercises, theoretical and movement preparation for teaching the selected dance
Other requirements: 80% attendance, activity in teaching, creation of a portfolio based on hospitalizations
