Learning objectives:

The course focuses on watching film materials, recordings of dances of each ethnographic area and practical mastering of selected dances, in a practical workshop in the hall. The course focuses on the region of Lachia. The students create a movement preparation for the selected area.

The aim of the study is a deeper understanding of the selected ethnographic area of Lachia and pedagogical work on its dance mastery with emphasis on the specifics of the area. Independent activity of students, aimed at obtaining information about the region, processing and using it in teaching folk dances.

Thematic areas:

dances from Lašsko: Lašsko is another distinctive region in eastern Moravia. Today's perception of the region of Lašsko as an equal counterpart of Wallachia, Haná, Horácko and Slovácko has been established due to various circumstances, among which dialectological peculiarities and the distinctive features of regional culture in general have played a significant role. Lachia is not a homogenous region. It is divided into several sub-regions according to its landscape, its costume, certain types of dances and, above all, the style and character of the dance steps.

  1. Wallachian-Lashy border area: Zhnily from Měrkovice, Zvrtek from Grun, Čeladenský from Kozlovice, Dymak from Kozlovice, Hulan from Měrkovice, Kalamajka from Kozlovice, Kohut from Kunčice, Koval from Kozlovice, Lendr from Kozlovice, Pilky from Kozlovice and from Lhotka pod Ondřejníkem
  2. Mountain Lachia: Starodávný from Gruně, Zvrtek from Staré Hamry, Zvrtek from the border of Kysuce, Obertas from the border of Kysuce, Čardaš from Konečná, Babsky from Korně, Čeladenský from Ostravice, Dratenik from Ostravice, Hulan from Gruně, Kalamajka from Staré Hamry, Ruska polka from Malenovice, Slezsky čardaš from Ostravice, Vojtek from Bílá,

  5. Lachian jump: solo, pair and quadruple jump, Lachian jump Ondraš. Unlike the Wallachian Odzemek, which is danced to one basic song, there are a number of songs for the Lašský jump. The dance elements of the jump are characterised by the vigour and edginess of some of the figures, which contrast interestingly with the light, soft figures. Students try to create their own sequence of ciphers from the possibilities widely offered by the material studied. The Lachian Jump is an improvisational affair for each dancer, so everyone seeks their own distinctive style of Lachian Jump.

Learning outcomes

The student will gain information about the region, its processing and use in teaching folk dances, in preparing materials for teaching folk dance and creating performances for art school students, amateur and professional groups.

After each area covered, the student prepares technical training and searches for dances in the literature related to the area, develops a methodological procedure for teaching.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Practical participation in the seminar is required, preparation of at least one movement-dance variation to the discussed folklore ethnographic area (technical preparation of dance skills of the area). Seminar work on the topic of the area chosen by the student.
