Learning objective:
The teaching content of the course Pedagogical Seminar for MCD 5 consists in systematic deepening of knowledge and experience in the form of independent pedagogical practice, in which the student applies and actually verifies the acquired knowledge and skills from Didactics and Methodology of MCD classes. The pedagogical practice is always preceded by detailed preparation, which is professionally consulted with the teacher of the subject. Subsequent analysis and evaluation (self-evaluation) takes place in the form of a discussion in which topics such as continuous correction, explication of principles and meanings for technical and artistic growth of students of a given movement and dance level, personal approach, atmosphere in the class, use of professional terminology, etc. are reflected.
The Pedagogical Seminar for MCD provides a space for discussion of topics dealing with the functioning, structure and problems of dance education, set in a broader historical context (i.e. post-1945 to the present). The focus is primarily on the current status. The debate also focuses on the concept of dance in the Ministry of Education.
The aim of the study is the practical development of independent pedagogical work as an artistic and educational process, the formation of an individual pedagogical style. The student is confronted with real situations in the form of teaching at various state institutions (e.g. conservatories, primary art school), in dance companies or in private studios. Emphasis is placed on acceptance of responsibility for preparation for teaching, development of verbal expression, use of professional terminology, choice of adequate methods, ability to work with music and accompanist, demonstration and professional correction. Creativity, the ability to create a creative atmosphere and an even distribution of attention to all pupils are emphasised. Empathy in approach to the individual is emphasized.
Meeting and observing various pedagogical personalities, both domestic and foreign, is essential for improving professional pedagogical thinking and action. Workshops organized by the department are an integral part of the study. Also, participation in discussions related to issues of dance education or dance art in general.
The pedagogical seminar for MCD 5 is closely linked to the subject Didactics and Methodology of MCD, MCD Training.
The subject content includes the following thematic areas:
- Hospitalization in modern and contemporary dance classes in upper grades at conservatories, dance companies or private studios. Preparation of pedagogical output - teaching practice in selected institutions - evaluation and self-evaluation - discussion
- Modern and contemporary dance as a part of artistic education in the Czech Republic (formal and informal) Dance in the system of state administration, specifically in the Ministry of Education and Science (Dance in schools, conservatories, HAMU and JAMU, primary art school, dance studios, etc.)
- Issues of Czech dance education after 1945 up to the present.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to use his/her knowledge and skills flexibly and creatively in pedagogical practice in different types of educational and leisure institutions. The student is familiar with the structure of arts education in our country. He/she
is able to think about a given topic in a broader context.

Evaluation methods and criteria
The credit is awarded on the basis of the completed practice (pedagogical outputs) in selected institutions and its written evaluation. The student actively participates in the reflection of the acquired experience in the form of discussion. The credit also includes a report in which the student informs about the topic of his/her master's thesis, the questions he/she asks and the research tools he/she has chosen to clarify them, in the range of 2-3 standard pages.
Additional requirements: 80% attendance, activity in class, portfolio development (includes workshop reflections, dance performance reviews, and repots from observations of teaching at public or private dance institutions). Reading of required and recommended readings.
