It is a practical dance lesson focused on the technical mastery of folk dance steps in their basic form.
Thematic areas:
1)Dance steps individually: each student learns the dance steps individually first. Emphasis is placed on the exact technical mastery of the given step in all possible ways of execution (straight, in body filming, in turning to the right and left). The steps are performed in different spatial, tempo and rhythmic variations.
2)Dance steps in various combinations: Technically mastered steps are linked into larger units, combinations. First, simpler, and then more technically demanding steps are connected in step links. Later, the students create their own step links and their variants according to their own invention.
3)The next level of controlling the steps, their variants and combinations is the transfer into a pair dance. Pair dance is the basis of folk dance, and therefore much attention is paid to it, both practically and theoretically.
4)Combinations of steps: hop step with supports, hop step with turns in a pair, going through the gate and turns in a trio of walking and running, two step with a stepped polka,“Kalamajka“ dove with a spinning polka, two smooth steps with one step of the polka, two step with a dancer's lift, smooth straddles with a change in the direction of rotation, heel - toe steps with a Wallachian step, simple elements of the ground.
5)Regional variants of folk dance steps: Each step has its own schematic basis. The complexity and diversity of our folklore areas form the technical execution of the step, typical and different for each area. Through practical demonstrations and comparing the differences in some steps, we improve the approach to the character and style of dance in the given area.
6)Selected dances of folklore areas: the most typical dances of individual areas and their variants are selected and during practical repetition the students try to perform as perfectly as possible.
Central Bohemia – „Bažant“ (Pheasant),“Zahradníček“ (Gardener),“Ježek“ (Hedgehog), „Šmikuranda“, „Kalamajka“, Maděra, Rejdovák and Rejdovačka, Břitva, Sekyra – motyka (Ax-hoe).
South Bohemia - Doudlebská polka, Přibíbračka.
Wallachia - Janošík, Raubčíček, Ševcovský, Odzemek.
