Contents

The workshop should accentuate the open form of thinking about film and through the film, namely video and audio, monitor their relationships (not only) with an emphasis on editing and the open-form sequence-shot film

The workshop is defined space-time in which students receive pedagogical leadership not only in school exercises and work on their studies, but also in the wider framework of their future profession. Based on theoretical and practical reflections on specific topics builds a method of specific „film“ thinking.

Exercise: Setting the Table - Three or more characters sitting around the table. Dialogue scene. Student learns how to edit shots together with more actors seated. Learns how to respect lines of action in more complex situation, how to show a character appearing or leaving.

Topics:

1 Overview of course activities, contents, and methodology.

2 Camera exploration. Sound exploration.

3 Overview of the film elements of a movie.

4 Difference between STORY and TOPIC in films.

5 Different types of narrative and narrators.

6 How the story is expressed by characters - setting – events.

7 Review of different editing techniques and their dramatic value.

8 Editing process. Rough cuts screening.

9 Filmic time-filmic space.

10 Kuleshov Effect – Context Creates Meaning.

11 Identifying the communicative aspects and dramatic value of Film Language.

12 Review and presentations of the semester exercise.

Learning outcomes

Successful implementation of all group and study exercises. Gathering of knowledge from the workshop program.

Prerequisites and other requirements

Readiness to devote the maximum of one's time and energy to the successful mastery of challenging tasks arising from the implementation of the practical exercises.
