In recent years, historical photographic techniques have become the focus of alternative photographic techniques.

The saline process is the first copying process based on the sensitivity of silver halides to light. A suitable paper is impregnated with a silver nitrate solution and then immersed in a potassium iodide solution. Each of the layers is applied after the previous one has dried. Sensitization is carried out by smearing with a solution of silver nitrate with gallic acid and wet, as in the wet collodion process. It is developed in a solution of silver nitrate in gallic acid. A negative is created on the paper substrate, which then becomes transparent with wax and thus creates a negative with sufficient transparency to make additional positive copies.
