The module is focused on making positive copies using the historical OIL PRINT technique
Undoubtedly, oil printing also belongs to noble prints. It is a technique that does not use silver halides.
The oil print is based on the properties of chrome gelatin. In principle, it is similar to photolithography, which uses the sensitivity of dichroman salts to light and the hardening of gelatin by the products of photolytic decomposition of these salts. The basis for this technique is oil printing paper with a thick layer of gelatin. It was necessary to sensitize the paper by evenly applying a sensitizing bath of chromium solution with a specially adapted brush. The paper was then dried, stretched in a darkroom in a copying frame under the negative, and copied in daylight or under another source of UV radiation. After copying it is washed in cold water to remove the chrome, after drying the paper is washed again in warm water. After removing the excess water, the image itself was developed on wet paper with greasy printer's black, which was applied with light movements with a special diagonally cut brush. The raised areas of the gelatin relief repelled the paint, the hollow areas received it.
Learning outcomes
Based on active participation in the entire process, the practical results of creating an oil print from one's own negative size 18 x 24 cm will be evaluated
Prerequisites and other requirements
The listener controls the process of non-standard photographic technique, which safely controls and achieves the desired results. Can write a report on the process, reflecting anomalies in the process with a proposed solution. Suggest the use of the relevant technique in your work. He looks for parallels in contemporary art and possibilities for further development of the use of the relevant technique. He is aware of alternative uses.
