Contents
This course is focused on exploring and further developing the dramatic, prose, poetic and other creative writing techniques explored in Creative Writing 1. The critical thought and self-awareness required to enable writers to develop is a key theme of the course. The first half of the course will again focus on creative techniques and in-roads for developing style and content. The second half will focus on the demands of meeting artistic and commercial expectations and how the individual artist balances these needs. Students are expected to bring awareness to the group of material from their own cultures and literary heritage.
Learning outcomes
With this exercise students will:
- further develop the skills and insights established in Creative Writing 1
- develop and practice genres they are unfamiliar with and relate it to their screenwriting practice in regard of the needs of their cinema studies and final scripts
- develop further depth of skill in literary analysis
- learn how to handle the expactations and demands of publication and the pressures of authorship
- increase their understanding of how adapted and original material changes to meet the expectations, tastes and demands of their anticipated readerships

Literature
Required reading excerpts where needed will be handed out in class. Recommended reading will be presented to class participants for either suggested hard copy or reading online.
Evaluation methods and criteria
Attendance: Students are allowed to have two absences. Barring unforeseen circumstances, students should notify the instructor in advance. Exceptional circumstances will be considered, but additional work may be required.
Participation: Students will be strongly expected to contribute to in-class discussions.
Completion policy: To complete the course, a student must comply with the attendance and participation requirements and write a significant piece of original or adapted material. This may comprise original screenplay, a one-act stage play, an extension of the Paradise Lost exercise , adaptation from source material, a lengthy journal, extended factual article, a short collection of poetry or a significant piece of prose writing or several short stories. Any screenplay must have an anticipated running time of at least 30 minutes.

The subject is not taught every year. The subject is taught at least once every three academic years.
