Contents
A series of short-term projects that will allow student to explore, test and refine diverse tools, knowledge and crafts that are essential for film directing.
Project no. 1
- Shot in Ponesice. 1 day. 1 minute take film. No dialog. No editing. Student directs and does camera themselves.
Project no. 2
- Shot in Ponesice. 2 days to shoot and edit. No dialog. 3 acts, 3 shots. 90 sec. Final length. Students do camera themselves or can collaborate with other Ponesice present students.
Project no.3
- Special dinner. No dialog. Limits of shots and type of shots. Not moving camera. Convey a space or the use of a prop without showing it.
Final project
- Encounter. 3 min. 5 shots. 2 characters (no 1, no 3, just 2 characters). 1 location. Dramatic use of prop. No dialog. Dramatic scene; 3 internal acts. Change/shift of power (**Sound on location, shotgun mic, students record themselves). No casting. DAMU collab or fellow students.
Learning outcomes
With this exercise students will:
- Put on practice and refine essential skills of visual storytelling.
- Understand and incorporate the necessary tools for designing and directing a dramatic scene/situation.
- Learn how to create characters and build the situation based on its pre-set elements.
- Understand the logic of building a brief story and estimate its filmmaking potential.
- Learn how to formulate and develop creative cinematic ideas.
Prerequisites and other requirements
Directing student must present the final project (Encounter) and its directing interpretation to the teacher.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Class screening: the student receives feedback from the teachers. The grade is given for Encounter exercise by the subject teacher (mentor).
Overall artistic success is evaluated with an emphasis on:
- Audiovisual and cinematic interpretation of the exercises.
- Understanding and using the concepts of dramaturgy.
The student's failure to comply with the requirements and/or parameters of the exercise (project) may result in a lowering of the grade.
Note
- Directing student is responsible for finding the essential crew members. Production managers will be assigned.
- Technical parameters: The equipment list is given by the production sheet (“White Book”) of the exercise. Students must choose from the shooting dates pre-selected by the FI production office.
