Synopsis:

Beginnings of animated film - projections from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1960s, focus on the technological differences between animated films and films using special effects.

Prerequisites:

1. General cultural maturity.

2. Interest in animated film.

Study Objectives:

Study aims:

1. To familiarise students with the history of animation and films using special effects.

2. Familiarise them with the production and techological dissimilarities in various types of films.

3. Using projections to familiarise them with major exponents of Czech film and their works.

4. To gain a basic overview of animated film.

Outline and Syllabus:

Curriculum

1. Theoretical grounding in the basic types of films using special effects.

2. Beginnings of Czech animated film between the wars.

3. Post-war period; Jiří Trnka.

4. Trnka?s contemporaries.

5. Animated film in the second half of the 20th century.

6. Development of animated film from 1990 to the present.

Syllabus

Czech animated film developed out of the long tradition and popularity of puppet theatre in our country. After the Second World War it won world-wide recognition and the Czech film school still has a high reputation today. The Czech film marionette became a symbol world-wide. Maintaining and expanding this tradition. Resemblances with puppet theatre and similar sources of inspiration. A look into the workshops of our most important artists.
