Synopsis:

The degree to which a stage is necessary for a production to be realised, the stage as a production device, alternative solutions to the acting space, street theatre, site specific.

Prerequisites:

1. Basic knowledge of theatre history and puppet theatre history

2. Spatical sensitivity

3. Capacity for reflection

4. Technical sensitivity and creativity

5. Completion of studies for the subject „Changes to the Puppet“

Study Objectives:

1. General familiarity with the development of stage space

2. Familiarising students with technical equipment, terminology, rules that apply to these spaces

3. A knowledge of the standards and rules essential in creating the actor - viewer relationship

(auditorium - stage)

4. Examining the development of puppet theatre stage space

5. Seeking alternative solutions for acting spaces and the degree to which a production ?needs a stage?

Outline and Syllabus:

Curriculum:

1. History of the development and preception of theatre space

2. Development of puppet theatre space alonside the changing perception of how different puppet technologies are applied

3. The technical equipment used in theatre spaces according to the general contemporary perception of puppet theatre

4. Spatial rules regarding the means of expression used (actor, puppet, object, multimedia etc.)

5. Alternative spaces

6. Street theatre

7.Site specific

Syllabus:

An understanding of how the intended metaphors are applied and the ensuing search for the rules and standards that apply to specific approaches are fostered in discussions with students and an analysis of the methods and technical solutions used in key individual productions (use of archive records and the production currently being viewed). Understanding ?stage technology? as a means of expression for a production, not only as a ?mechanisation device? (changes in decoration, animation etc.). The function and possibilities of decoration, light and size as elements that create space while emphasising the existence of the actor, object, puppet etc. in a single physical space.
