Brief outline of the course: Basic strokes and use of the hands and arms. Potential and results of articulation, register, fingering and working with the tone of the Harpsichord, largely in connection with performance literature.
Course syllabus:
The harpsichord with the organ were in their principle and function in history occasionally linked or closely linked together. The organist today does not escape the situation that they would not need to know how to play solo on the harpsichord or accompany a singer or instrumentalist.
In principle, the harpsichord has a different way to create a tone and working with it sound. Also literature for the harpsichord has its own particularities. Performance on the harpsichord inevitably uses a bit different selection of performance tools, particularly in working with time and freer stylistic technique (variou use of arpeggio, ornamentation, fingering, etc.) The organist should go through the fundamental performance styles which are:
- Englsih Virginal literature at the turn of the 16th to 17th century
- Italian or Northern German polyphony of the 17th or 18th century
- French Clavinova music (preludio non mesure, suite) 17th and 18th centuries
- Italian Tocatta of the 17th century
- virtuoso sonata (D. Scarlatti)
- Czech Pre-classic music
A selection and the composition of selected literature is determined by the intentions and interests of the performer.
