The aim of the course is to (1) adopt basic publication skills and have a good bearing in publishing standards; (2) acquire a basic bearing in the field of the humanities and their methodological approaches; (3) acquire a basic orientation in manners of evaluating and the financing of publications.
- Mode of study:

A single-semester elective course (7 meetings, 4 instruction hours 1 each 14 days) organized based on OVVP (Public Relations) and concluded with an exam. The course is comprised of open lectures intended for the AMU academic community and classes only for registered students. (max. 15)

The classes are intended primarily for doctoral students, if there are spaces then also for master's studies students or bachelor's student in theory studies.

12.2 Lecturer: Tomáš Dvořák (FAMU)
1st block: Basic methodological approaches, types of research and historical context of their origin and development. Open lecture.
2nd. block: Completing research and the historical role of that approach in the formation of knowledge. Use of professional instructions and encyclopedias, basic catalogs from foreign libraries (Library of Congress), JIB, intents of collections of Prague libraries, MMVS, and open sources. Electronic information databases in Prague institutions and at AMU (EBSCO, JSTOR). Procedure in limiting topic for research, selection of key words, narrowing the topic. Open Lecture.
Assignment 1: limiting partial topics of dissertaions (graduation thesis, class dissertation, etc), that the student, during the course, will work with and which are appropriate for making a conference contribution / contribution into a collection, or professional article. Completing research for that topic. The topics will be discussed between the student and lecturer electronically. The research is to submitted electronically by 24.2.

1st Block: Working with sources, citation norms, issues with state-of-the-art develeopment. Citation, paraphrasing, summary. Citation norms and treatments by individual publishers. Citation manual. Open lecture.
2nd Block: Writing training 1, annotation (resume). Students briefly present a topic which they have chosen to work on during the course. Discussions about development of research. Approaches in writing annotations. Presentation of a professional article, for which a completed annotation will be required. The class is for registered students only.
Assignment 2: Completion of the annotation on two standard pages.

1st Block: Art research. Open lecture
2nd Block: Writing training 2, abstract. Approach when writing an abstract. Difference between an abstract and an annotation. Presentation of a professional article for which an abstract will be required. Discussions about the submitted annontations. Class only for registered students.
Assignment 3: complete and abstract of the assigned article in 300 words.
1.4. Lecturer: Martina Musilova (DAMU)
1st Block: Students attempt to define their own methodological approach in completing the assigned topic from the introductory class (or work on a dissertation). Class only for registered students.
2nd Block: Writing training 3, abstract in English. Discussions about the completed abstracts assigned inthe previous class, presentation of 3 theory articles, for which an abstract will required. Class only for registered students.
Assignment 4: completion of an abstract in English for the given article in 300 words.
15.4. Lecturere: Tomáš Dvořák (FAMU)
1st block: Grant projects, presentations at conferences, posters, CV. Open lecture
2nd block: Discussions over the completed abstracts. Class only for registered students.
Assignment 5: Completion of a conference contribution / collection contribution from a conference on the topice selected in the introductory course in 7 standard pages.
22.4. Lecturer: Lucie Valentinova (OVVP).
1st block: Evaluation and financing publications in the Czech Republic. It impact on the home institutions of the author. Potential grant support for doctoral candidates. Open lecture.
2nd block: Meeting with Editors of Czech review magazines. Open class.
6.5. Final meeting with all lecturers: Discussions on the submitted conference contributions, grading. Only for registered students.

- Assessment methods and criteria:

To sit the exam, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of the three texts which are worked with in the course, submit all five written assignments, class participation and 80% attendance. Assignments are to be submitted two days before the end of the classes, electronically to the instructor and other class members. Students will be able to prepare conference contributions for the Doctoral Conference: The Territory of Art 2016.
