Learning outcomes of the course unit:

Lecture on contemporary world art cinematography presents significant trends and filmmakers shooting in the last 10 years.

Mode of study:

Lecture supplemented with examples and films screened in their entirety

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

Knowledge of the English language - Films with English subtitles will be shown in lecture.

Course contents:

The course will combine a summarial overview of basic production, distribution, technological, stylistic and topical tendencies in contemporary art film with deep analysis into the creations of individual countries and fillmmakers. The course is defined by artistic element of cinematography with and emphasis on the works and awarded filmmakers at recent prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Rotterdam or Sundance. The summary will include the last 10 years at maximum. Around seven general lectures are planned (about current tendencies in film narration, production and distribution strategies, documentaries, experimental films, animation, etc.). Along with this 19 geographically separated lectures (allowing an understanding of the production and social image of the given cinematography and, as well with be devoted to selected innovative filmmakers and works).

There will be several instructors lecturing, specializing in individual areas: Helena Bendová, Kamil Fila, Jindřiška Bláhová, Andrea Slováková, Eliška Děcká, David Čeněk and others.
