Learning outcomes of the course unit:

The aim of this one-semester course is to (1) acquire a basic bearing in the field of the humanities and their theory approaches in the areas of theatre, film and music; (2) acquire basic publishing skills and a basic orientation in publishing standards.

Mode of study:

This coure is comprised of open lectures intended for the AMU, UPRUM and AVU community. The classes are open only to registered students. Classes are primarily for AMU, UPRUM and AVU doctoral students.

The maximum capacity is 10.

Prerequisites and co-requisites:

The classes are intended primarily for AMU, UPRUM and AVU doctoral students. If there are spaces then also for master's studies students of those schools.

13. 10. Tomáš Dvořák (FAMU)

Lecture: Literature technology sciences: academic practices in reading and writing, professional sources and research

Class: Commented presentation of doctoral research focuses and their methodologies.

27. 10. Pavel Janoušek (DAMU)

Lecture: Fundamental methodology approaches in thought on the arts, particularly theatre. From positivism to the conceptual idea of the study.

Class: Discussions about submitted abstracts - the texts will be determined during the first week of the Winter semester 2017/2018

10. 11. Iva Oplištilová (HAMU)

Lecture: Basic research and theory approaches in music. The position of music theory in music studies disciplines, their changes and extent. Various approaches to the study of music structure. „How“ or „what“? The aim and devices for music analysis. Perception as the start for researching not only a music piece.

24. 11. Helena Bendová (FAMU)

Lecture: Basic research and theory approaches in film. Studying film as an inter-disciplinary field of various approaches extending from the poetic essay to empirical research. The history studies from 1910 and their relationship to other studies on one hand to practical, artistic thought on the other. The development of film studies, among others, uncovers how comlex it is to join the aesthetic, necessary evaluators and the partially subjective perception of art with efforts to achieve „scientific“ standards known from other studies.

Presentation of the AMU Center for Doctoral Studies and the Conference Art Territory; presentation of professional magazines; presentation of the course program in the Summer semester; arts studies.

Students will work with the following texts in the course. All texts will be available to registered students in electronic form.

Assessment methods and criteria:

To sit the exam, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of all texts which are worked with in the course, submit all written assignments and class participation. Assignments are to be submitted at least 3 days before classes, electronically to the instructor.
