Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students are further acquainted with the potential of the instrument. More complicated compositions are selected. Playing issues are identified and a path for playing improvement is searched for.

On-going participation in symphony and opera orchestra auditions.

Instrument skills at the level corresponding to the study year and student profile.

Course contents

The piccolo is an instrument used in many music groups. This instrument is often used in orchestras, solos and other music genres today. This course gradually provides students with all skills and knowledge needed in playing the piccolo. Students receive a complete overview of piccolo issues. They acquire knowledge in playing the instrument as well as a general overview of potential piccolo use. Their educational method view is supported in instruction. An emphasis is placed on the gradual comparison of the differences in playing quality of individual students. The less proficient must achieve a level which ensures them professional application of the piccolo. Course literature originates in the more demanding compositions for the instrument, also with piano or orchestra accompaniment. Solo and orchestral solo literature is also studied. At the close of the course all playing issues are reviewed. The overview of orchestral solos is reviewed and piccolo literature in the broadest sense is described.

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation of instrument and orchestra playing, completion of the established repertoire, AKS verification, all concluded with the award of credit.
