Learning outcomes of the course unit

1/ The student must manage the basic expressive tools of costuming. Learn to work with various types of costuming / for drama, opera, ballet and apply costuming in non-traditional spaces /and have the skills to manage, using costuming and masks, a drama situation.

2/ The student must understand the linking of all elements /directing, set-design, dramaturgy, acting / and be able to communicate, collaborate and engagement.

3/ The student must be able, according to the costuming design, to execute it independently.

Mode of study

Instruction is through individual consultations linked to assignments. Subsequent discussions and related lectures on given topics, searching for sources of inspiration, text analysis, individual consultations on the treatment of individual concepts, dramatic situations, costuming designs and their details.

An emphasis is placed on increasing collaboration with other components and studies.

Guidance in implementation of the artistic proposals.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

1/ Abilities of artistic communication, drama of an artistic manifestation and conceptual thought.

2/ Knowledge of the basic forms of historic clothing and basic material for implementation of costuming.

3/ Working skills with a drama text, definition of its significance and sense.

Course contents

Costuming is one of the elements participating in the generation of theatre and film works and works created for non-traditional, non-theatre spaces. Artist, originator, set-designer- costuming narration with the director, dramaturgist, set-designer, choreographer is an inseparable part of the artistic team and a co-artist in the concept of a piece. The student is guided to mutual interaction, linked to other components of a primarily stage piece.

1/ Assignments, their sense and limitations.

2/ Consultation of individual sources of inspiration, sketch, drawings of drama situations, proposals.

3/ Individual consultations on the concept and functionality of costuming narration.

4/ Emphasis on the maximal use and collaboration with other piece elements.

5/ Realization and sometime guidance of the production of individual artistic costuming objects and masks according to the selected proposal.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit is awarded based on:

Independent work in the studio and a minimum of 80% attendance at consultations (classes) throughout the semester.

conceptual thinking skills,

artistic expression and presentation of individual assignments during the semester and at the summary exam.

During the semester the work is evaluated by the lead instructor. The summary exam is graded by a expert committee and the bachelor's exam is graded by the testing professor, the lead instructor and expert committee.

Note

The Winter semester of Costuming 6 is devoted to working on the Bachelor's thesis. The Summer semester of the same year is devoted predominantly to assignments and assigned topical costuming object for non-theatre spaces, exteriors and exhibits.
