Learning outcomes of the course unit

To introduce students to contemporary foreign documentary productions through the Jeden Svet festival.

Time and place: Weds, 6. 3. 2019, 14-16:00, U1 + attendance of at least 3 screenings of the Jeden Svet festival (6-17. 3. 2019)

Requirement: credit/1 – 100% attendance + presentation of attendance of at least three screenings evidenced by 3 tickets purchased (before 17:00 the price for the festival film is 80 Kč, after 17:00; 110 Kč)

Course contents

The main motto of this years Jeden Svet Festival is „Safe Proximity.“ This warns of the continued growing nervousness and misunderstandings across societies. Jeden Svet investigates how people define themselves and limit their identity in today's complex and divisive world and how close or far people can really be.

On Wed. 6.3.2019 14:00-16:00, in FAMU classroom #1 a lecture by the President of the Tibetan government in exile, Ms. Lobsang Sangay: Safe Proximity - politics of the middle road and real autonomy of Tibet

One of the topics which is closely related to issues in limited identity and which resonates in Czech society is the autonomy of Tibet. Though the Czech government does not officially recognize Tibet, its support comes from a number of within the public and compared to other countries is very strong. What causes this? How to resolve the Tibet issue? Is it a all possible? Lozang Sanggja, president of the Tibetan government in exile answers this. Since 2011 she represents the highest political function of the sikjonga which she took over from his holiness the Dalai Lama. This is the first time in Tibetan history that political and spiritual power has been separated. Lobsang Sangay is a representative of the „middle road policy“ which is founded on equality and mutual dialg between Tibet and China and attempts to resolve the Tibet issue by non-violent means.

The lecture in English will be simultaneously translated into Czech.

100% lecture attendance and submission of ticket stubs of at least 3 Jeden Svet festival screenings.
