Learning outcomes of the course unit

The aim of the course is to support student and graduate film oriented student teaching in formal and informal education. Film/Audio-visual training is quite sporadic in Czech schools. The are no certified teachers. Let's change this.

Mode of study

Instruction will be in a) classes, b) listenings, c) excursions to practices, d) work on an independent didactics project.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

The course will be primarily open to students who have completed the Filmmaker - Instructor module course in the Winter semester 2017/2018

Course contents

Filmmaker - Instructor I continues a series of meetings from the 2017/2018 Winter semester, in which issues in instruction and education of FAMU students. During colloquia we found that instructional (rhetorical) skills belonged to a set of skills which a student graduate should have at disposal. We will attempt at nothing less than achievement of an „instruction maximum“. The classes will be structure as an inspirative mozaic of approaches to film education, working with the public, lecture presentations, festival dramaturgies and other disciplines which triumph in direct interaction with the film audience. Emphasis will be placed on professional surveys, excursions to practices and one's own teaching/lecture experience with students. Students will, during the Summer semester, as well, work on their own didactics project.

Time and place:

The classes will take place in the Editing Dept. spaces. Part of instruction will also be excursions to practice and instruction surveys. The dates below represent a basic series of meeting once every two weeks. As well students must count on donating hours which will be considered „on-site“ practice.

Grading methods and criteria:

The requirements for awarding credit are completion of classes, practice participation and work on the independent didactics project.

Note

Instruction super-structure will be the opportunity to complete sever practical internships oriented to reinforcing teaching skills

Lecturer CVs:

Jiří Forejt

Dramaturgist, instructor, methodologist. FAMU film and television production graduate. Creator and initiator of a concept of working with the public started in 2013 - 2016 in the Ponrepo cinema. He started the beginning of the film instruction dept. at the National Film Archive. He is the found and president of the Free Cinema Profiv ops. management council. He also acts as the producer for Free Cinema Films. He is also working on the Project100, distribution project as a methodologist. Since 2016 he has organized training classes for film professionals, „How to Present a Film.“. Since 2017 he has worked as a dramaturgist at the Marienbad Film Festival. He is currently working on his doctorate research focusing on working with the public in cinema spaces. At FAMU, he lectures on topics related to film training, working with the pubic, cinema attractions and Italian film.

Martin Čihák

Studied at the Mathematics-Physics Faculty of Charles' University (teaching studies), after which he graduated from the Film and Television Faculty - FAMU (Editing Dept.) and finally completed post-graduated studies at the Film Research Dept. at the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles' University which he finished, defending his dissertation „Arrangement Procedures of the Film Avant Garde, which in an expanded and revised form was published in 2013 at NAMU under the title Cinematography's River of Immersion. In the book “Distance Montage of Artavazd Pelešjana (NAMU, 2017) he published a writing on the Didactics of Distance devoted to issues in distance montage instruction.

David Čeněk

Completed the Faculty of Education at the South Bohemia University (French and Spanish). In 2004 he completed studies in Film Research at the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles' University which he acts as an assistant, lecturing at FAMU. He specializes in the history of Latin-America, French and Spanish film and African and Arab cinematography. He has long been devoted to topics in film training, visual anthropology, ethnographic documentaries and representations of native inhabitants in film. He publishes the periodicals Cinepur and A2. He prepared and translated an edition of Jean-Luc Godard, Texts and Conversations, working with Helena Bendova. With Tereza Porybna he worked on an edition of a collection of Visual Anthropology - The Culture of Rye and Sight. He has worked and works at MFDF Jihlava, Febiofest, The Summer Film School in Uherské Hradište and the Spanish Film Festival, La Pelicula.
