Course contents

The second semester sees the topics and themes of FtU1 deepen in both practice, overview and research. Students will be required to deliver 2 major literary projects (outline, treatment, script - one adaptation and one original idea). One project will be required to be feature length, the other short at 30 minutes. The feature length project will require submission of at least 30 minutes of screenplay within a screen running time of at least 90 minutes. The semester will cover an exploration of the writer/director/producer in relation to 'soft power', censorship, self-censorship, writers block, the power of comedy, production values and project management, and writing for socially sensitive issues within the political context. The course will also explore form versus content in relation to delivery platform.

Recommended or required reading

Students will be required to research, access and discuss screenplays, productions and associated background and promotional material from productions reflective of their cultural heritage.
