A lecture on occupational safety during the shooting of a film project for students and in practice.

The lecture is based on real experiences from film projects.

The lecture consists of three main pillars:

  1. Safe filmmaking - we will take you through the basic principles that have become the gold standard recognized by the Association of Producers in the Audiovisual Industry. And the interpretation of these principles.
  2. A look at real-life situations you may encounter on a shoot and how to deal with them. What to do if there is an injury or accident. What that means for you.
  3. Stuntmen in student films - we'll go over the different stunt specializations, when and how to use stuntmen, and most importantly we'll look at costs in general - which action scenes are appropriate and financially realistic for student projects and which are not.

Learning outcomes

The aim is to get an overview of the legal obligations in the field of occupational safety, practical guidance on what and how to deal with best practice.

Prerequisites and other requirements

100% attendance.

Each participant of the lecture has to evaluate some of their projects from the point of view of security, identify the main risks and propose measures.

Student will be assesed pass/fail based on their attendance, class participation and completion of the assignments given to them.

Health and safety in stuntsman actions expert

Director of the European Film Safety Institute, author of the Safe Film Project. Holder of Czech HS authorization - professionally qualified person in risk prevention, holder of BECTU HS passport. In the position of HS Senior Supervisor he was responsible for the projects EXTRACTION 2 (NETFLIX), THE GRAY MAN (NETFLIX), ON THE WESTERN FRONT CALM (NETFLIX), BALERINA (LIONSGATE), FALCON and WINTER SOLDIER (MARVEL). He began his career in film in 1997 as a stuntman on Joan of Arc. He then graduated from the European Stunt School in Copenhagen and worked as a stunt coordinator for over 10 years.
