Obsah

The course provides students with practical orientation in software tools used in contemporary photographic and visual practice. The aim is not to master a specific program, but to develop the ability to quickly navigate unfamiliar environments, understand the logic of tools and transfer this knowledge into one’s own workflow. Students learn to recognise appropriate tools for specific tasks and to work with an awareness of constantly evolving software environments.

The course is divided into three thematic blocks conceived as continuous lines developed across both semesters. In the first semester, the focus is on orientation, fundamental principles and understanding basic workflows.

Block 1: Working with photography and images

This block focuses on basic image‑editing workflow. Students gain orientation in image formats, colour spaces, image management and archiving, and fundamental principles of digital image editing. A professional image‑editing application is used as a reference tool for understanding general concepts such as layers, masks, non‑destructive editing and preparing images for different outputs.

Block 2: Layout and typography

The block introduces basic principles of layout, grid systems, typography and document structure. The goal is not to master typesetting software, but to understand graphic composition and to be able to prepare simple outputs such as presentations, portfolios or publications. Students are introduced to different types of tools and their suitability for various contexts.

Block 3: New and digital tools

This block responds to the rapidly changing landscape of digital tools. Students gain basic orientation in current AI tools and emerging software approaches, including essential terminology and principles. Emphasis is placed on critical understanding of tools and their possibilities rather than technical specialisation.

Výsledky učení

Upon completion of the course, students will:

-understand the basic logic of working with software tools used in contemporary photographic and visual practice,

-can independently navigate unfamiliar software environments and grasp their fundamental principles,

-understand basic workflows involved in working with digital images, documents and outputs in different contexts,

-can recognise which tools are appropriate for specific tasks and situations,

-gain basic orientation in current digital and AI tools and are able to critically reflect on their use.

Předpoklady a další požadavky

The course does not require previous experience with graphics software.

Literatura

Study materials are shared continuously within the individual blocks. Access to the necessary software is provided in the computer lab.

Hodnoticí metody a kritéria

The course is completed with a credit. The requirements for obtaining the credit are active participation in class (minimum 80%) and continuous work within the individual thematic blocks. Assessment is based on students’ engagement in practical exercises, their ability to orient themselves within software environments and their understanding of basic workflows.

Emphasis is placed on the learning process, the ability to reflect on one’s own work and active participation in class discussions, rather than on mastering specific software or technical details.
