Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students create their own abstract choreography inspired by music content. They also prepare some choreography examples of the folkdances of various nations.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Course contents

Creation of one's own choreography inspired by the musical content of a work (ex: Prelude or Etude by F. Chopin, In the Mists by L. ??náček and a further large collection of compositions for student selection). Student, with their choice, prepare a music analysis of the composition and develops theory and practice preparations for a dance performance which is studied with performers and presented in the next semester on stage.

During this semester work with soloists, duets, trios and larger numbers of performers will be covered.

Additionallly, each student is required to prepare a theory paper and in practice, present their interpretation with samples of choreography inspired by folkdance: Czech Dance - polka, furiant - (for 3 pairs); Hungarian dance - Czardas - (solo pair); Polish dance - Mazurka - (presentation by 6 pairs); Slovak dance - Čapáš, Guralský dance, Verbuňk - (5 pairs); Russian dance (7 pairs with solo presentations); Spanish dance - Sevillian, Farruca, Zapateados (solo pair or solo). For each sample the student selects their own music sample, prepares the choreographic notation of the dance performance, at least, the ground plan and personally presents the samples. (Working with a folk dance professor).
