Learning outcomes of the course unit
Lecture on higher music theor issues. Basic topics: Introduction to Music Theory, Music Theory Classification and Analysis, Applied Music Theory, Research in Music Theory Classification and Analysis. The aim is to prepare Music theory professionals with perspectives for application in Musicology and Education.
Mode of study
Contact instruction. Lectures in advanced music theory issues, text comparisons analysing selected examples of music structure.

Course contents
Music theory taxonomy
- current situation, important works in the taxonomy of music theory, current issues and perspectives
- process concepts of music structure
- Mathematic aspects of music theory (a music structure as an precisely formulatable system)
- Central and distance hierarchy principles
- General principles of identity and contrast
- Corresponding relations in music structure.
Music theory analysis
- Method of so called activated analysis
- Schenkerian analysis - taxonomy, analytical practice, attempts a application to post-tonal music
- Mathematic methods of music analysis (application of probability and information theories, statistics, large number mathematics, plurality theory)
