Course contents
Lectures and classes with presentation of the most important set design work of the Czech Theatre Avant Garde of the 1920's and 30's. A paper on a selected topic in the history of Avant Garde set design in film. Searching for sources of inspiration and contexts of film set design from the history of theatre and photography.
- Rise of Czech modern set design and costuming.
- Modern Czech theatre costuming.
- Czech Avant Garde set design.
- Vlastislav Hofman and the beginnings of Czech Theatre Expressionism.
- Josef Čapek - relation of painting to set design.
- František Troester - Scene urbanism and imagination.
- Theatregraph, D 34, E.F. Burian, Laterna Magika - stage and film.
- Alexandr Vladimír Hrska and Antonin Heythum - do Fauvism and Constructionism exist in set design.
- František Zelenka - pre-war activity and Terezín.
- Bedřich Feuerstein - purism or surrealism.
- František Muzika - poetic surrealism.
- Karel Svolinský, Jiří Trnka, František Tichý as set designers.
- Josef Svoboda and new set design technology.
