Learning outcomes of the course unit

  1. To introduce the current status of the dynamically developing trade and its technology.
  2. To introduce the basic particulars of the trade and a comparison to similar trades such as alternative theatre, short-film and the internet.
  3. To introduce the potential use and application of motion design in other than the classical film formats.

Lecture, screenings, sample analyses, discussion, exercises.

Course contents

Basics of the rise of TV promo design, its world and domestic development, current trends and use.

  1. History of film titles as the precursor to television promos.
  2. A short survey of the history of TV promos, their links to other arts and genres. A great emphasis will be placed on the basic particulars and uniqueness of the short film format.
  3. A survey of promos - graphics in the world, screenings and analyses according to examples and their future in the media market.
  4. Work methodologies, technology for the production of TV jingles and captions, from assignment to return with a focus on Czech works.
  5. Examples of the work process of an assignment with an emphasis on the characteristics of this short form, footage limits, explicity in expression, measure of artistic freedom and pressure by the contractor.
  6. Discussions - summary of lectures, comparisons, debates on the assignments given.
