Learning objectives:

In the final semester, the entire previous study is recapitulated, during which the student has become a masterful and distinctive performer who is aware of his/her strengths and weaknesses. The student is guided to be able to confidently name and analyse all the attributes of viola playing (principles of correct finger technique, tonal culture, etc.) from the position of a teacher, to be able to explain and independently solve possible combinations of problems that may arise in performance practice. He/she is guided to understand the psychological aspects of the solo performer's performance. He/she acquires further knowledge in the field of interpretation of traditional and modern or non-traditional techniques and forms. Culminates in the preparation of a graduation concert and thesis.

Learning outcomes

The student has a comprehensive knowledge of global as well as national repertoire and demonstrates a high level of ability in creating and delivering seamless musical experiences and interpretations.

The student develops, presents and implements artistic programs that are coherent and appropriate for a variety of contexts.

The student understands in depth the role of the musician in contemporary society, exploring, engaging with and reflecting on specific relevant professional working environments and contexts.

Literature

Instructions for the selection of pieces, their rehearsal and performance will be specified by the teacher with regard to the individual abilities and talents of each student.

Students prepare a programme for a graduation concert (recital) or for a performance with an orchestra. The recital programme must include all stylistic periods - Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern. The programme may include, for example, W. A. Mozart's Duos in G major or B major for violin and viola or the Three Madrigals in B flat major. Martinů for violin and viola or other chamber music. The focus of the programme must be solo pieces and sonatas with piano. The choice of compositions is left to the student and his/her teacher.

Example repertoire:

MOZART, Wolfgang Amadeus. Duos for violin and viola in G major and B major

MARTINŮ, Bohuslav. Three madrigals for violin and viola

Additional study literature will be specified by the instructor during semester, based on the student's talents, skills, and professional interest or the teacher's specialisation.

Conditions for the award of credit examination: active participation in classes, participation in seminars as a performer
