Learning Objectives:
The course develops the knowledge acquired in the course Fundamentals of Dance Production, deepening and expanding it with context and application to the project itself. It allows students who have not taken the previous course to attend lectures, provided they have completed the information from the course syllabus. It prepares performers and makers in the field of movement theatre for professional practice, providing information on legal issues, organizational management, context of dance in cultural policy, as well as advanced strategical planning and fundraising, and developing presentation and communication skills.
Thematic areas:
The topics of each class focus on the basic body of knowledge leading to the establishment and development of an organization (company, school, artist):
- History of arts management, its problems and economic implications.
- the position of dance in the cultural policy of states, regions and cities
- the integration of dance into the creative industries
- legal personality of the organisation, establishment of the organisation, copyright protection,
- financial management of the project and the organisation - budget, contracts with donors, profit management
- advanced fundraising - European grants, non-grant fundraising, platforms
Learning outcomes
By the end of the semester, the student is able to prepare a detailed budget for the organization and a strategy for approaching sponsors, as well as a quality grant application for a movement arts festival for one of the field's public grant programs. They are able to argue the uniqueness of the intention, form and method of presentation and support it with an adequate budget.
The students understand context of the contemporary dance scene in Czechia, have insight into current grant policy, understand the content of a producer's work in developing a simple project, the needs of a team and collaboration.
