Contents
The course deals with the problems of teaching dance history and theory, mainly at conservatories or other types of schools. It includes lectures and seminars in which students present independent work. The course is followed by Teaching Practice in Dance History and Theory. In the first semester, the content is an introduction to the main problem areas of general didactics and history didactics and their application to dance history and theory. The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical background and principles for the organization and formulation of the content of teaching in the field of dance theory and history, and the specific features of teaching these subjects.
Thematic areas:
I. General didactics
Aims of teaching; content of teaching; relationship between teacher and pupils; organisational forms of teaching; teaching methods; didactic principles; curriculum and didactic documents; planning and preparation of the teacher's work; material and didactic aids; diagnosis and evaluation of pupils' knowledge.
II. Didactics of history as a basis for didactics of dance history
Relationship between historical knowledge and the content of history teaching; informative and formative component; interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary coordination; the aim of history; the tasks of the subject; the teacher's work and the formulation of the content of teaching, preparation for teaching; textbooks; history methodology.
III. Didactics and methodology of dance history and theory
- Teaching of dance history and theory - its place in the educational process, teaching objectives
- content of teaching - curriculum development, comparison with related disciplines
- the place of the subject History and Theory of Dance in conservatoire programmes, inter-subject relations
Topics of seminar papers:
Elaboration of the objectives of dance history and theory (general, for individual years of dance conservatories, individual thematic blocks)
Analysis of textbooks - in the field of dance history and related disciplines (history of theatre, history of music, history of visual arts, general history)
A paper from the specialist literature
Learning outcomes
Students acquire theoretical knowledge in the field of didactics (general and disciplinary), acquire didactic principles, their application in solving seminar tasks; become familiar with professional texts and materials.

Materials from electronic sources - websites of dance conservatories (information about the concept of teaching, curricula, etc.); documents related to the field of education (laws and regulations and other materials related to the studied issue)
Textbooks on history and history of art and individual artistic disciplines; teaching aids (overviews, pictorial materials, etc.).
Textbooks on the history of dance/ballet.
