The content of the course of Didactics and Methodology of Modern and Contemporary Dance 1 is designed as an insight into modern and contemporary dance and forms the theoretical basis for the practical class of Modern and Contemporary Dance Training.
Selected video clips are used to outline the historical development of modern and contemporary dance, define its current trends, define the concepts of modern and contemporary dance techniques and movement systems, and outline the movement principles and forms used. Part of the study is to follow the Czech and foreign contemporary dance scene.
The course is closely related to the content of the courses Pedagogical Proseminar and Modern and Contemporary Dance Training.
The aim of the course is to gain an awareness of the diverse forms of modern and contemporary dance, as well as an understanding of the unifying principles of modern and contemporary dance techniques. In doing so, the course offers preparation and subsequent support for teaching traditional modern and contemporary dance techniques.
Thematic areas:
Definition of modern and contemporary dance
Introduction to important representatives of Modern Dance and Contemporary Dance through audiovisual demonstrations and subsequent discussion
Introduction to basic internet resources on the topic, the Czech dance scene and dance institutions
Definition of the terms dance technique, modern dance techniques, contemporary techniques and movement systems
Introduction to the movement principles of modern and contemporary dance
Introduction to dance improvisation and movement play as possible forms of movement exploration and teaching
Learning outcomes
The student understands both practically and theoretically the principles of modern dance techniques and is able to use them in pedagogical practice at a basic level. He/she can recognize fundamental mistakes and propose optimal solutions with regard to the target group.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Credit is awarded on the basis of active attendance, viewing of continuously recommended videos on the topic discussed and subsequent discussion, written reflection on the assigned topic, and reflection on a performance or other cultural event of 1-2 standard pages, oral and practical tests of understanding of the course content.
Additional requirements: 80% attendance, activity in class, creation of a portfolio.
