The content of the course of Didactics and Methodology of Modern and Contemporary Dance 4 consists of two parts, theoretical and practical. Both are aimed at familiarizing, consolidating and expanding the student's knowledge of the methodology of modern dance techniques of Doris Humphrey and José Limón by analyzing their individual movement principles and didactic procedures. Also, emphasis is placed on the connections, differences and interconnections with other modern techniques and their use in the creative pedagogical process at an intermediate level.

In practical teaching, the way of construction of practical lessons of different types is emphasized, and the ability to logically arrange individual dance elements and to connect them in meaningful dance links is taught.

The course is closely linked to the Modern and Contemporary Dance Pedagogical Seminar, Modern and Contemporary Dance Training.

The aim of the study is to develop methodological thinking, to promote and consolidate pedagogical skills, own creativity, movement research and analysis.

● Historical and social context of the emergence of dance technique Doris Humphrey/ José Limón

● The personality of Doris Humphrey - philosophical basis, legacy and influence (the arc between two deaths, The Art of making dance)

● The personality of José Limón and his artistic journey

● Basic principles of Humphrey/ Limón technique - concept, development, present

● Alignment, succession, opposition, isolation

● Weight, fall-rebound, fall-recovery, suspension, breath, focus

● Modern dance lesson outline at intermediate level

● Creative approach to teaching practice

● Supporting and extending methods (Alexander technique, Ingmar Bartenieff Foundamentals, Feldenkreis method)

Learning outcomes

The student understands the context of the development of modern dance trends, practically masters these Humphrey/Limon techniques and is able to creatively apply the acquired knowledge in pedagogical practice.

Evaluation methods and criteria

The examination will demonstrate the student's practical and theoretical knowledge of the material taught in both semesters (modern dance methodology on the basis of an explanation of the concepts, principles, elements of Modern dance and their practice, as well as their use in the construction of the lesson, 80% of the evaluation). The evaluation also includes a written reflection of the student's own pedagogical outputs and developments in the contemporary dance scene in the Czech Republic (20% of the evaluation).

Other requirements - attendance 80%, activity in teaching, portfolio creation.
