Learning objective:
The content of the course Didactics and Methodology of MCD 7 builds on and develops the theoretical knowledge from the Bachelor's programme. Specifically, it aims to systematically deepen the professional knowledge in the field of methodology of modern and contemporary dance techniques and movement systems. It deals with a detailed analysis of core principles, specific teaching methods and didactic procedures.
The teaching of the course leads to the development of the student's analytical way of thinking. Its topics are designed to inspire the student's own practical research. Great emphasis is placed in the teaching on the promotion of the student's pedagogical and artistic interest and profiling. The chosen means are professional discussions in which the student is encouraged to form and defend his own opinions.
The course is closely linked to the Pedagogical Seminar for MCD and the MCD Training.
The aim of the study is to develop methodological thinking, pedagogical proficiency, own creativity, movement research and the ability to contextualize topics.
Thematic areas:
- The influence of postmodern thinking on the emergence and development of contemporary dance (modern - postmodern - contemporary dance). The transformation of the concept of corporeality in the 20th century (in sociology, in Merleau-Ponty's philosophy)
- Alignment. Dynamic alignment based on the functional relationships between body parts in static position but also in movement. Functionality and aesthetics. Postural habits. Effective and ineffective tensions in the body.
- Spine. The concept of the vertebral-skeletal connection and its application in movement.
- The idea of the central axis of the body as a tool to explain the principles of movement (rolling, spiral, countermovement, rotation, lifts in partner dancing). Three weight units.
Learning outcomes
The student is familiar with all the essential topics and principles of modern and contemporary dance, and consolidates practical skills related to the systematic and logical construction of lessons and classes of various types. It engages imagination into age-appropriate teaching. The student is able to take a synthetic and analytical approach in processing information, actively seeking and gathering information from recommended literature, also from his/her own sources of inspiration in the field of movement and music and recording it in his/her portfolio.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Credit is awarded on the basis of active attendance, theoretical and practical review of the material covered. In the discussion, the student bases his/her opinion on arguments from the literature and considers the chosen topic in a broader context. He/she is capable of an analytical approach. Uses professional terminology.
Additional requirements: 80% attendance, active participation in class, portfolio development (includes workshop reflections, dance performance reviews, and repot from observation of teaching at public or private dance institutions). Reading of required and recommended readings.
