Learning objectives:
The course focuses on the methodical preparation of folk dance teaching for 7th grade and the creation of a model lesson according to the curriculum of dance conservatories, dance disciplines of Elementary Schools of the Arts and other dance and movement studios for the level of advanced dancers and students.
The aim of the study is the development of methodical thinking, the ability to analyze the movement, its correct execution and methodical work with the correction of incorrect execution.
Thematic areas:
Students are asked to search the collections for more complex dances and their variations. These dances are then combined into larger units (students are introduced to the creation of bands).
- Increasing pupils' stamina: Students check how to work on pupils' stamina in folk dance. Dance combinations are made longer (for stamina) and more difficult (for technical growth).
- Creation of step variations, for example, from the following steps: mazurpolka, polka steps, Skocna in various combinations with other steps and all possibilities of execution. All other steps and their variations are used.
- Improvisation in folk dance: In the original folk environment, improvisation was an integral part of dance culture. Students learn how to incorporate improvisation in a non-violent way into folk dance instruction. There are various ways of doing this and other possibilities are open to the students (variation of a learned dance according to the imagination of the pupils, completion of a specified part of a dance combination, free improvisation on a song). - Dance repertoire.
- Further enrichment of dances with new motifs so that the pupils are prepared for work in a professional ensemble. The students prepare their own variations and combinations of step motifs and whole dances, which they then consult with each other.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student
- is able to prepare a technical exercise for a region of Bohemia or Moravia
- can independently modify dances and create variations from their basis
- chooses the correct teaching procedure and sequence of assignments
- can explain footwork and its differences for different regions
- can correctly structure a dance lesson
- on the basis of the acquired comprehensive knowledge is able to build a lesson for the intermediate stage of folk dance teaching

Evaluation methods and criteria
Preparation of folk dance lessons for the 7th grade of 8 year high school education system (conservatory), creation of a model lesson. Preparation of variations to dances with fixed and non-fixed connection to musical accompaniment - Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Simplification of variations and further modification of prepared variations for different types of dance studios and dance conservatories.
