Learning objectives:

The course focuses on the methodical preparation of folk dance teaching for 8th grade and the creation of a model lesson according to the curriculum of dance conservatories, dance disciplines of Elementary Schools of the Arts and other dance and movement studios for the level of advanced dancers and students.

The aim of the study is to further develop methodical thinking and the ability to analyze the movement. The ability to create other possible variations on movement themes written in the collections. Other possible ways of working with folk dance motifs.

Thematic areas:

Students are asked to search the collections for more complex dances and their variants. These dances are selected for one folklore area, then a targeted movement vocabulary for that area is created and methodical and movement training with emphasis on the specifics of the chosen area.

  1. Search for available literature and other resources focusing on one dance area.
  2. Creation of step variations and their logical connections in relation to the chosen area.
  3. Improvisation in folk dance, especially in dances with loose and semi-loose connection to musical accompaniment.
  4. Dance repertoire: selecting and finding both typical and unusual dances of a given area and creating a dance band.
  5. During this semester the student will choose two areas to work on, one from Bohemia and one from Moravia.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Preparation of folk dance lessons for 8th grade of 8 year dance conservatory (age 17 – 18), creation of a model lesson. Preparation of variations to dances with fixed and non-fixed connection to musical accompaniment - Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Complicating and further weaving variations and their further adaptation for different tips of dance studios and dance conservatories.
