Learning objectives:

The content of the course leads to the acquisition of practical skills in repetitive work with folk material. Finding movement material for teaching and creation performances. This develops students' own creative potential necessary for their own teaching practice. The Dance Practice course can also be taught in the form of intensive workshops in a given semester. The student rehearses selected parts of dances according to the recordings and creates movement preparation for them, which is then methodically applied. The student searches the available literature for sources of inspiration.

The aim of the study is to teach the student to find interesting movement motifs, to rehearse them and then to develop them into shorter choreographic units. The student searches for sources for the selected motifs in the available literature. This semester focuses primarily on working with one selected folkloric region.

Thematic areas:

A recommended component of the course is active participation of students in a workshop of a repertoire of a folk ensemble, partner dance organized by the Dance departement HAMU or other institutions.

  1. Search for relevant literature on the selected dance area, selection of dances
  2. Consultation on the selected dance, which will be prepared by the student, also in written form
  3. Searching for the selected dance demonstration on: https://www.lidovakultura.cz/?lang=en, theoretical and methodological analysis of the material
  4. Creation of a group of dances from the chosen area, creation of dance blocks for ensemble stage practice.
  5. Preparation of a dance band for a folk ensemble from a folklore area (children's, adult, semi-professional)

Learning outcomes

The student is able to search the literature for thematic sources for one chosen region. The student will gain practical experience in rehearsing and creating movement units for monothematic units. The student has a basic understanding of different choreographic approaches in folk dance when working within a single region.
