Learning objectives:

The content of the course leads to the acquisition of practical skills in repetitive work with folk material. Finding movement material for teaching and creation performances. This develops students' own creative potential necessary for their own teaching practice. The Dance Practice course can also be taught in blocks, in the form of intensive workshops in a given semester. The student rehearses selected parts of dances according to the recordings and creates movement preparation for them, which is then methodically applied. The student searches the available literature for sources of inspiration.

The aim of the study is to teach the student to find interesting movement motifs, to rehearse them and then to develop them into shorter choreographic units. The student searches for sources for the selected motifs in the available literature.

Thematic areas:

The recommended component of the course is active participation of students in a workshop of a repertoire of a folk ensemble, a partner dance organized by Dance departement HAMU or other institutions.

  1. Practical demonstration of a part of the training or dance, which the student picks up by observation in the chosen folk dance ensemble
  2. Finding a dance demonstration of a folk dance group other than the Czech Folk Ensemble, evaluating related features and dance motifs
  3. Stage a short part of a dance from the selected sample with emphasis on technical training of foreign folk dances
  4. Czech, Moravian or Silesian dance in a stage performance of the student's choice - choreographic, technical and movement analysis
  5. Staging of the selected dance for 2 - 3 minutes.

Learning outcomes

The student is able to find inspiration in literature and other sources, with which he/she works further. The student gains practical experience in rehearsing and creating shorter movement units and works creatively with their individual parts. He/she has a basic overview of different choreographic approaches in folk dance, based on watching examples of choreographies of our leading and international companies.
