Learning objective:

Folk dance training in its top form for advanced dancers develops the fitness and stamina of the dancer.

The aim of the study is to prepare students technically for the professional use of folk dances with maximum emphasis on awareness of the differences between the different folklore areas.

The training is aimed at the maximum deepening of the knowledge of dance steps and their variations: students are introduced to other dance steps and their regional differences. Technically, they try to approximate the character of the step of a given area as much as possible.

Thematic areas:

Steps are practiced in larger and more complex links and more complicated floor plans for technical proficiency.

Dance steps: the Lachian polka, elements of Wallachian and Lachian odzemek, cifry verbuňku, mazur - polka, polka ruška and other special dance steps.

For each individual area there is a movement preparation, which the students go through before the whole dances from that area are performed. The execution of one step in different folklore areas can be very different, so the audience has the opportunity to explore the differences. These are the cornerstone for the colourfulness of our folk dance.

Dances of other regions and their local variants: the most typical dances that are discussed from each region: Central Bohemia - Dupák, Pětičtvrteční, Kalamajka; East Bohemia - Křižák, Ruská polka (double polka); West Bohemia - Furiant, Rokycanská, Pantoflíčky, Talián; South Bohemia - Doudlebská polka, Přibíračka; Silesia - Čihaný, Vrtek; Lachia - Dratenik, Ondraš, Dymak, Kohut; Wallachia - Janosik, Starodávný, Raubšícký, Šotyška; Moravian Slovakia - Sedlácké, Sedlácké, Verbuňk. For some dances we look for more variants, compare them and then enrich them with our own ideas, modifications and changes that are suitable for the dance.

Learning outcomes

The student knows the information about the region, its processing and use in teaching folk dances, in preparing materials for teaching folk dance. The student is able to perform the dances and their variants in practice. He/she is able to describe technical exercises and explain the nature of individual dances. The course extends the already covered material with more complicated dance material and dances from other folklore areas.
