Contents

Getting to know individual regions and ethnographic areas of our country. Culture of the selected region, dance specifics, customs, costumes, ceremonialism, which is an integral part of the study of folk dance.

The course complements the Didactics and Methodology of Folk Dance, develops the substance with an emphasis on the practical application of knowledge in teaching.

Dances from West Bohemia. The revival of local traditions is currently the work of modern rural groups and folk dance troupes that have attempted to reconstruct the form of the traditional dance repertoire.

Thematic areas:

Upper Chodsko: Postřekov, Girls walking around before the start of the dance, In a circle, pair form and wheel form, Zelený kúsek: Hopsasa hyjsasa, Šotyš, Tajče.

Dolní Chodsko: In a circle in 3/4 and 2/4 rhythm, Zelené kúsky, Brumlák, Salat, Martin, Manžestr, Štajdyš. Pilsen West region: Sulislavské párové kolečko (pair's wheel), Lendlery, Pilsen North region: Plaské dívčí (girls) and mixed kolečko (wheel), Pantofel z Dolní Bělé

Klatovsko Region: Latovák with a (špacírkovým) walker introduction, Mateník Talián, Hulán 3/4 from Bolešin, Plzeňsko southern region: Vivatek from Kotrčov, Hulán á la hopla waltz, Štajryš. Chebsko, Plánsko, Mariánsko-lázeňsko and Karlovy Vary: Roia from Chebsko, Girls' and fun bikes and reje from Chebsko and Karlovy Vary, Krajcpolka from Karlovy Vary and Chebsko, Schleifer (glider) from Ašsko.

Learning outcomes

The student will gain information about the region, its processing and use in teaching folk dances, in preparing materials for teaching folk dance and creating performances for art school students, amateur and professional groups.

After each area covered, the student prepares technical training and searches for dances in the literature related to the area, develops a methodological procedure for teaching.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Credit is awarded on the basis of the preparation and defence of a seminar paper (2-3 standard pages in length), a written lesson prepared for the selected region, its partial presentation and commentary on the individual elements and links, their execution with a focus on the purity of the regional execution. After each region covered, the student will prepare a technical tutorial and search for dances in the literature related to that region. They will search for a sample dance on YouTube or DVD Strážnice, evaluate the movement-dance material, analyze the movement vocabulary of the area and prepare a short weave.

Other requirements: 75% attendance, activity in class.
