Course contents

Course description and topic scope:

The aim of the course is to investigate and show the potential of the so called investigative method in documentary film. To clarify that it is not only for journalism. We define the difference between journalism and documentary film. We cover the limited genre of documentary film. We do not look for meaningless buck-passing, so called, „balance“ but rather a clearly declared original stance. The course is especially devoted to so called engaged documentary film in a narrow limitation of the concept. Engaged film often uses investigative methods, needs it. The course offers an overview of the basic of data jouralism, helps to orient one in the labyrinth of the internet and, finally, evaluate the relevance of media news, perceive the context of things and politics, and prinicples of open society. In a broader definition of the term, however, we can also deal with film of the unexplored or viewed from another perspective of historical events. The instruction method is a moderated continual dialog, film, and periodical article analysis, practice classes evaluating details available from sources in electronic databases.
