The course examines the use of cinematographic tools in shaping the emotional, psychological, and dramaturgical effect of films.

Students explore how composition, shot size, camera angle, perspective, lens selection, depth of field, movement within the frame, camera movement and speed, lighting atmosphere, and post-production influence the spectator's perception and emotional response.

The course approaches these elements not as isolated technical techniques, but as interconnected means of cinematic expression. Film screenings and analysis of students' own work are used to connect theoretical concepts with practical cinematographic decisions.

Learning outcomes

Develop an understanding of cinematography as a dramaturgical and expressive tool.

Analyse the relationship between cinematographic choices and emotional response.

Develop the ability to consciously select camera tools according to the dramatic needs of a scene.

Understand how individual cinematographic elements combine to create a coherent visual language.

Develop the ability to articulate and critically evaluate cinematographic decisions.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Required seminar attendance: 80%

To receive credit, students must submit the required materials, which must demonstrate that they have understood the lecture material and are able to apply it in practice.

Active participation in the seminar, as well as the accuracy and quality of practical exercises, are prerequisites for receiving a grade.
