Contents

Deepening knowledge gained in the DaVinci for Cinematographers 1 course. Advanced work with nodes, working with RAW data and LUTs, noise reduction and other advanced features of DaVinci Resolve Studio. Methods of working with multiple sources, ACES.

Topics:

  1. Display referred vs. scene referred approach (ACES)
  2. Nodes — parallel, layer, outside, splitter + combiner, practise
  3. Curves (Hue. Vs. Hue, etc.), practise
  4. Working with RAW data. Optimized Media, Render Cache, Proxy
  5. Blur and sharpening. Noise reduction, node cache.
  6. LUTs. Using LUTs (as well as on parts of image the image using keys), creating and exporting.
  7. Using the alpha channel in nodes, Key mixer node, editing the alpha channel.
  8. Data burn-in, exporting for DCP

Learning outcomes

Introduction to colour grading in the context of the cinematographer’s work. Basic colour theory, representation of colours, colour mixing. Introduction to DaVinci Resolve, practical examples and tests. Basic workflow — importing original camera data and edit lists, grading and final export.

Prerequisites and other requirements

A prerequisite for the course is a general knowledge of digital film technology and digital workflow. Elementary knowledge of colour theory is an advantage.

Evaluation methods and criteria

80% attendance at seminars, active participation in lessons. The student will obtain credit for grading the Triangle joint exercise or Sports, which will be completed by the end of the regular examination period.
